Sacraments & Sacramentals

Sacraments are visible signs instituted by Christ. They make present the grace they signify through the Church's ministry. Sacramentals are sacred signs that prepare us to receive sacramental grace and sanctify ordinary life.

Sacraments of Christian Initiation

  • Baptism: Cleansing of sin, rebirth in the Spirit, and incorporation into the Church.
  • Confirmation: Strengthening in the Holy Spirit to live as missionary disciples.
  • Eucharist: The source and summit of Christian life—receiving Christ’s Body and Blood.

Sacraments of Healing

  • Penance & Reconciliation: God’s mercy and forgiveness; healing relationships with God and neighbor.
  • Anointing of the Sick: Strength, courage, and peace for those facing illness or aging.

Sacraments at the Service of Communion

  • Matrimony: A covenant of love mirroring Christ’s union with the Church.
  • Holy Orders: Ordained ministry to serve the People of God with word and grace.

Sacramentals (Blessings, Ritual Signs)

The Church offers sacramentals—such as blessings, holy water, exorcisms, and symbols of popular piety—to dispose us to receive sacramental grace and sanctify daily life.
